Not For Long We Were Under The Illusion

Not for long we were under the illusion
of both love, hope, and quiet glory.
Now our youthful fun disappeared
like a dream, like the morning mist.
We are still enthusiastic,
under the yoke of a fatal power
with our impatient souls
we heed the invocation of our Homeland.
We look forward to instants of sacred liberty
like a young lover waiting for the minutes of his date.
As long as we desire freedom ardently,
as long as our hearts are alive in sake of the honor,
my dear fellow, let’s devote
the splendid fervor of our souls to our Homeland.
Comrade, believe: the star of captivating happiness
will rise yet. Russia will be aroused,
and on the ruins of autocracy will be written our names!
